A tilapia leather sneaker with leather lining and a white outsole. The Tilapia is an Amazonian fish which has fine scales and gives a strong yet subtle elegant leather. The Tilapia used by Veja is tanned only with vegetable extracts. Nine Tilapia skins are necessary to make a pair of sneakers. Thereby the assemblage is each time unique.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER:
VEJA is founded on an ethical footing at every stage of the business: from sourcing and the production cycle, right through to packaging, distribution and even the energy the company’s French headquarters use. They work with a collective of rubber tappers for the wild rubber latex used in their soles. There shoes are made of and lined with pesticide-, GMO- and fertilizer-free organic cotton canvas and low-chrome and/or vegetable tanned leathers, and the final products are then assembled in Brazilian fair trade factories. Simply, they have managed to connect the dots of sustainable production to create a great sneaker.
