High school friends, Molly Keogh and Maryanne Mathias launched their line, Osei-duro, in 2010 after a trip in Ghana. On their journey they chose a name at random from the Ghanaian classifieds — Osei means esteemed/honorable and Duro means medicine/magic — and set up a studio in the capital, Accra. Now the duo produces their textiles and garments in Ghana, applying traditional techniques such as hand dyeing and weaving. Their vibrant line aims to support the local apparel industry in Ghana – on both a large and small scale – in becoming sustainable while respecting the rights and aesthetics of local makers.
